Artist’s Statement
I am an artist and my work gravitates between two overlapping spheres: the personal and the social.
My personal perspective focuses on my family, which evolved and flourished in the State of Israel after the Holocaust. This category includes:
In Another Reality documents the family’s children in the moments when they are detached from their environment.
Intergenerational Conversation was created by my father’s photographs and mine, placed side by side.
Friday Dinner describe the warm family encounters created during our Sabbath gatherings during the period when my father was still with us.
Amos and Merav exposes the painful space created by personal loss and is a bridge to universal emotions.
From a social perspective, I examine, research, and critique local and global phenomena:
A Serene Place offers a portrait of the debris left by vacationers at the Sea of Galilee.
The Israel Trail - A Journey to an Unknown Land reveals the phenomenon of “Guardian Angels of the Trail” and the very act of walking as an escape.
Mother According to Google investigates the concept of mother as it is presents itself in the Google search engine.
Condolences reflects the humor and pain of mourning rites in contemporary life.
A Woman escaping Corona (A tribute to “the End of the Land” by David Grossman): was inspired by the pandemic and the social political circumstances surrounding it.
Each topic that I take on as a project become an investigation subject as I used as a biology researcher, the field I was engaged in for many years before I became an artist. My choices for projects were spontaneous and I often return to examine different facets of the same topic, each time from a different angle and with the insights I have gained over time.
Each topic that I take on as a project is a result of profound investigation as I used to apply as a biology researcher.
